Respond here to answer the Week 1 Question: What is one thing I want to work on this year? How might I reach this goal?

To respond, leave a comment to this post below by clicking on the pencil icon.

Note: For CTGE 6260/6261, you may wish to think about the question from the perspective of a 21st century teacher (i.e. How can I incorporate more digital literacies into my teaching?)

A Reader's State of Mind

In fourth grade, you have time every day for independent reading. As your teacher, it is my job to help you pick books that you like and books that are at your own reading level.

Below, you will find a link to a Reading Interest Survey. Look this over before the first day of school, where you will be filling it out (you do not need to fill it out now). Your responses will help give me a good idea of the kinds of books you like to read so that I can be sure to have them available in our classroom library!

Enjoy!

Welcome!

Welcome to the blog site for Ms. Diller's 4th grade class, A Fourth Grade State of Mind! This blog will be used throughout the year as a way to keep up-to-date with assignments, class-happenings, and useful resources. As you can imagine, in fourth grade we will learn all about New York State, including its history, peoples, and geography. Here are some other things you can expect to learn this year:

Math: In math we will continue to practice reading and creating graphs. Fractions become key players in our learning, too. Geometry (shapes and figures) as well as an introduction to Algebra will guide us through the year.

Science: What a great year to be a scientist! In fourth grade we experiment with electricity and discover new ways to measure. We will track the migration of whales and continue to learn about ground-breaking scientists.

Language Arts: Your reading and writing will grow with you throughout the year. We will discover how to use writing to persuade people's thinking. Together, we will explore new texts that will make you think about new and exciting ideas.

We are going to be doing a lot of work while having a lot of fun. I cannot wait to share all of the excitement of fourth grade with you!
