Note: For CTGE 6260/6261, you may wish to think about the question from the perspective of a 21st century teacher (i.e. How can I incorporate more digital literacies into my teaching?)
Ms. Diller
What I would like to work on most thing year is advancing my technology skills beyond the Smartboard. For example, I love how we created these blogs because I have never created/used one before and I think it would be great to incorporate this into my classroom when I begin teaching. I think blogs or teacher websites are so resourceful because almost 70% of classroom students have access to computers at home. I also want to be able to use Facebook and Twitter with my students in educational (appropriate) ways. In order to reach these goals, I must continue to explore new ways of incorporating such literacies into my classroom. I can't be afraid to take risks and I also think that if I work alongside my students, they'll be able to guide me or teach me new ways to use these digital medias.
ReplyDeleteSince I do not yet have my own classroom, there are many things that I am really excited to incorporate into my own classroom one day that I have learned through this class. For one, I really enjoy the idea of using social networking for educational purposes with my students. I think Twitter is a great way to update students with websites as additional resources/reading, post reminders about upcoming tests/projects, or even post homework assignments. Parents could even follow the class Twitter account as a means of staying connected to what is going on in the classroom and also be reminded of upcoming dates. I also am enjoying looking at all the blogs that my peers have created, and I think in the future this would be a great way to get students more engaged in class. I think that using more online means of answering questions and responding to peers, will tap into the students interests and strengths.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I would like to work on this year is strengthening students abilities to search for academic websites. Students in my class have limited practice searching for academic websites to find information. As students of the 21st Century it is absolutely vital for them to navigate computer websites for information. I would really enjoy using the computer and teaching my students the WWWDOT approach to identify appropriate websites.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I would like to work on this year is compiling a collection of educational videos that will be useful for ESL students. I do not have my own class yet, but throughout my graduate school courses I have learned how important visual aids are for ESL students, especially during content area lessons that approach abstract concepts. I would like to begin organizing the resources that I have encountered during my graduate school courses so that I can easily access them once I begin teaching.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I would really like to work on once I have my own classroom is creating and maintaining a classroom blog as a resource for my students and their families. Just from creating a blog and visiting some great classroom blogs like this one, I have become more exposed to the possibilities they hold for students. I would also like to build a social bookmarking site where I compile technology resources to use in my classroom throughout the year.
